Calling all Crocheters and Knitters!

Would you like to be involved in 'Yarn On 2016', a new project to raise money and awareness for the fantastic charity 'Breast Cancer Now'?

Part of the project involves creating a  patchwork covering made of crocheted and knitted panels to adorn a beautiful tree in the Abbey Gardens in Bury St Edmunds next summer. The 'Patchwork Tree' will be a piece of community artwork made by you and me!  Not only will it be beautiful and unique, it will be dedicated to the fight against breast cancer.

If you would like to make a panel to add to the project I would be SO GRATEFUL!! Please knit or crochet a square or rectangle, one side of which to measure 15cm, in any lovely fun colour, acrylic yarn, not wool please. You can contact me via this blog or at facebook.com/redsparrowcrochet for details on where to send panels to.

Every single penny raised throughout this project (including all funds raised from my 12-hour sponsored Yarn-On-A-Thon on Saturday 6 Feb) will go to Breast Cancer Now via the Just Giving page

Thank you so very much- any help to make this project a success would be brilliant! Here's to Yarn On 2016! Esme xxx

Hello!!! Got a rather lovely logo now for our 'Yarn-On-A Thon' fundraiser for the charity Breast Cancer Now. All getting a bit exciting now...!

Friday 20 November 2015

Hello! And welcome to this blog, all about 'Yarn On 2016'...

What is Yarn On 2016? Well, it's a creative yarn-inspired project to raise funds and awareness for the charity Breast Cancer Now (www.breastcancernow.org). Oh, and it will also make some beautiful artwork in the process.

Set up by Esme from Red Sparrow Crochet and photographer Wendy Knipe, we aim to get a community of crocheters and knitters together on Saturday 6 February 2016 for a sponsored day of creating, with all sponsorship money going to 'Breast Cancer Now' via the Just Giving website:
https://www.justgiving.com/YarnOn2016
We hope makers from all over the UK and beyond will take part and spend some time making on that day, asking friends and family to donate. It's win-win really! Crocheting or knitting AND raising money- what could be better?

We will be asking our yarn-loving friends (that's YOU!) to make square/rectangular panels (one side must measure 15cm, acrylic/nylon yarn only please in lovely bright colours) to adorn a tree in the Abbey Gardens, Bury St Edmunds, as a piece of artwork dedicated to everyone affected by breast cancer. This lovely piece of community art will be in place from May to September.

More to follow, so watch this space and get your crochet hooks and knitting needles ready!
